How to extract frames

  1. Add your video.
  2. Set where to start, how often to take a frame, and how many frames you want.
  3. Choose JPG or PNG and a size.
  4. Press Extract frames and download the ZIP. Files are numbered in order: frame-001.jpg, frame-002.jpg and so on.

Choosing an interval

The interval and the number of frames together decide how much of the video is covered. One frame every second for 20 frames covers 20 seconds; one frame every 30 seconds for 20 frames covers 10 minutes. Some starting points:

  • Contact sheet of a long video: every 15–30 seconds.
  • Picking the best still from a moment: every 0.1–0.2 seconds over a few seconds.
  • Training data or analysis: every 1–2 seconds.

If the video ends before all frames are taken, you get as many as fit.

Questions about Video to images

Why is there a limit of 60 frames?

Each frame is a full image, and large batches take a lot of storage and processing time. Run several jobs with different start times for more.

Are the images compressed?

JPG frames use high-quality compression. PNG frames are lossless. The ZIP itself stores them as they are.

How do I open the ZIP on a phone?

iPhone (Files app) and Android (Files by Google and most file managers) can open ZIP files directly.
